Muncy Hits Three Homers as Los Angeles Wins Seventh Straight
Taylor, Freeman, and Martin Also Go Deep for Dodgers
DENVER -- Max Muncy had a historic day at the plate, hitting three home runs to lead the Los Angeles Dodgers to a 12-3 victory over the Colorado Rockies on Wednesday in the series finale at Coors Field. Muncy's three homers give him 10 for the season, tying him for the most in the National League. He is the first Dodgers player to hit three homers in a game since Cody Bellinger in 2019. "It was a good day," Muncy said. "I was just trying to put good swings on the ball and hit it hard." The Dodgers jumped out to an early lead and never looked back. Chris Taylor hit a solo homer in the first inning, and Muncy added a two-run shot in the second. Justin Turner and Freddie Freeman each had RBI singles in the third inning to make it 5-0. The Rockies got on the board in the fourth inning on a solo homer by Ryan McMahon, but the Dodgers answered right back with a two-run homer by Will Smith in the fifth inning. Muncy then hit his third homer of the game, a solo shot, in the sixth inning to make it 9-1. The Dodgers added three more runs in the eighth inning on a two-run double by Martin and an RBI single by Taylor. Julio Urias started for the Dodgers and allowed one run on four hits in 5 2/3 innings. He struck out seven batters and walked two. "Julio gave us a great start," Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said. "He was able to keep the Rockies off balance all day." The Rockies have now lost seven straight games and are 10-17 on the season. The Dodgers, on the other hand, have won seven straight and are 19-8. "We're playing well as a team right now," Roberts said. "We're getting contributions from everyone up and down the lineup." The Dodgers will open a three-game series against the Arizona Diamondbacks on Friday at Dodger Stadium. The Rockies will open a three-game series against the San Diego Padres on Friday at Coors Field.
