Breaking News:

The 1999 24 Hours of Le Mans was a historic race. BMW Motorsport made major strides in endurance racing with a very promising second place overall for the BMW V12 LMR, campaigned by Team BMW Motorsport. The BMW V12 LMR is notable for being one of the first Le Mans prototypes designed with carbon fiber as the main material for the tub, with the major load-bearing panels of the car, such as the rear wing and crash structures, being constructed from a honeycomb composite material.

BMW Motorsport returned to Le Mans with an experimental concept:

A lightweight P1-LM car powered by a screaming normally-aspirated V12 engine developed in BMW's motorsport department in Munich. This engine would go on to power BMW's Formula 1 car in 2000. The team did an awesome amount of work, improving aerodynamics, shedding weight, and reducing drag on the next generation BMW V12 LMR during their winter break. The hard work paid off handsomely and the BMW V12 LMRs went on to control the race from the outset.
